I am a Counsellor and Coach with 16 years’ experience working with people from all over the world. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and I hold a Master’s Degree in Integrative Counselling. My additional training includes Advanced Transactional Analysis (TA) Psychotherapy, Suicide & Risk Assessment, Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling, Domestic Violence, Chemical Dependency Counselling, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Therapeutic Use of Mindfulness, Stress Management and Internet Addiction.
As an Integrative therapist (using aspects of the Person-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic and Transactional Analysis approaches) I acknowledge the uniqueness of every individual and offer therapy tailored specifically to my clients’ needs and circumstances.
I am particularly experienced in working with issues relating to: anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship problems, stress, rape and sexual abuse in childhood and as adults, chronic illness and disability, prescribed drug dependency and withdrawal, and domestic abuse. I have considerable experience working via phone/Skype and offer this option as it serves many clients who are housebound and unable to travel to see a therapist, or those who simply prefer this way of communicating.
In my work I have seen people empower themselves by discussing the changes they desire and envisioning a future filled with hope. My goal as therapist or coach is always to work with my client to facilitate those changes.
Apart from my coaching and counselling, I am involved in helping people affected by antidepressant, tranquilliser and opiate dependency and withdrawal. In 2006 I founded a support project called Recovery Road (then known as Benzo-Wise). I deliver keynote and motivational speeches and awareness workshops on the subject and I have been interviewed and quoted by newspapers and journals including ‘The London Times’, ‘The Independent’ and ‘British Medical Association News’. I am the author of the internationally successful self-help book, ‘Recovery and Renewal’ and the memoir, ‘‘With Hope in My Heart’.
I offer private withdrawal consultations on Saturdays (please see the ‘Appointments’ page) and I provide additional support through the members-only support Helpline, the webinars and question and answer sessions, etc. I also interact regularly with members through our Facebook Positive Pastimes Group. I love my work and am grateful for the opportunity to provide this type of support and to witness the healing that takes place.
