Dear Friend,

May you have moments of hope as you weather the storms of this healing process. I understand the challenges you face as you navigate your way through the days, and I want you to know that you are not alone and you will, in time, get better.

This healing journey is often marked by its difficulties, its misunderstandings, its isolating nature, and its demand for immeasurable strength. In the midst of all of this, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, discouraged, and even lost. But I want to gently remind you of something crucial: everything you are experiencing is a part of the healing process that leads to your recovery.

As you daily overcome the challenges, see them as testaments to your resilience, your courage, and your unwavering determination to heal. Even when it feels like it’s been buried under the weight of withdrawal symptoms/signs of healing, there is an infinite well of incredible strength within you.

I know there are days when hope feels distant or non-existent, when progress seems elusive, and when the journey ahead appears daunting. But in those moments, I urge you to hold on to these truths: your body is working to restore and regain homeostatic equilibrium; there is nothing that is going to happen that you won’t be able to handle; the strength that brought you this far will take you the rest of the way; and the outcome is your recovery. In every moment of every day, no matter how you are feeling, healing is happening.

So please, do not lose heart. Do not give up hope. Do not give up on your healing. No matter how long you have been waiting, you must keep holding on. Even when the road ahead feels uncertain and the challenges seem insurmountable, remember that healing is not linear. It’s filled with twists and turns and ups and downs. But all that time, your body continues to work on getting it right. You are still healing. You may not feel like it, but you are.

While you continue to patiently wait, be gentle with yourself, practise self-compassion, nurture and take good care of yourself, eat healthily, do your neuroplasticity exercises, and use any approach that has worked for you. Above all, remember that brighter days are ahead. As you continue to persevere, and as you continue to believe in the resilience of your body and human spirit, you will emerge stronger and succeed. As long as you keep holding on, you will make it to the other side.

Thank you for your courage, your vulnerability, and your unwavering determination. Maybe, as you struggle with the signs of healing all you can see is your suffering, but what we see is your heroism. For me, witnessing your healing is a privilege.  For others, reading your story will inspire them and give them hope.

With much compassion,
