Visualisation, when used regularly, physically changes the brain. It does this by creating and strengthening neuronal connections and pathways, through the neuroplasticity process. It involves what is akin to creating a detailed, realistic, multi-sensory movie of an event, experience, or desired outcome. In your case, it would be your recovery.

With this in mind, as often as you can, envision your recovery.. that your healing has been completed. Take your time to imagine and envision what this will be like for you. Consider every aspect. What wonderful things are you seeing around you? What sounds are you hearing? What comforting smells? What pleasant tastes? Where are you? What enjoyable activities are you invoved in? How are feeling? Explore and experiment with all of this and do it gently and with kindness. There is no right or wrong way. Visualisation can be a pleasant and uplifting pastime.

I know there can be strong resistance before becoming motivated to do this, but no matter what you may be experiencing at this time, no matter how challenging, you must never give up on your healing. If your progress seems slow and not at the pace you hoped or anticipated it would be, this does not mean you are not healing. You are. Still envision your recovery.

More than anything, continue to trust your nervous system. It knows exactly what it is doing as it works hard to be able to function calmly once again. So, keep holding on. Keep going. And as you envision your healing, remember that your reality is that you are well on your way to recovery. With each passing day you are one day closer. It is inevitable that the time comes when this challenge is a part of your past.

In the meantime, continue to see your recovery in your mind’s eye, as often as you can, knowing that everything you envision and more will one day become your reality.

With much compassion,
