Unknown to us, there are moments
When crevices we cannot see open
For time to come alive with beginning.
– John O’Donohue, “Conamara Blues”
When I read this quote by the brilliant poet, John O’Donohue, all of you come to mind. The fact that your healing is taking place even at the worst times, when it actually feels like the opposite, we can liken to the crevices we cannot see opening (as our interpretation).
I know that at times in withdrawal it can feel like life has stopped… like everything is on hold and you are hardly able to breathe, because the symptoms/signs of healing are so unrelenting and so intense. Well, the crevices are slowly and gently opening, and your nervous system is coming alive with the beginning and continuation of your healing (even if you are tapering).
This reflection today is to remind you of this and to encourage you to keep holding hope close to your heart. The crevices you can’t see are opening and the light of your healing will soon illuminate your darkest hours. In the meantime, don’t despair. You must keep soldiering on until, at last, you sense the aliveness… the renewal. That LIGHT confirming the presence of healing has arrived.
